Assessing the Landscape of Sugarcane and Jaggery Production in Bangladesh

DevMaker Consulting conducted a baseline survey in Khoksha Upazila (Kushtia District) and Pangsha Upazila (Rajbari District) from April to May 2022. This study aimed to capture a snapshot of the current state of sugarcane production, jaggery processing, and the socio-economic environment impacting 197 micro-entrepreneurs engaged in these activities.

Partnership for Prosperity:

The Programme for Community Development (PCD) has joined forces with PKSF to implement a sub-project titled “Gur Processing (Jaggery)” in Pabna and Kustia Districts under the Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP). This initiative aligns with the global goals of the SEP to empower micro-enterprises operating in the jaggery processing subsector.

  1. Assessing Current Status: Providing a comprehensive understanding of the farmers’ current situation, including their agricultural practices, economic well-being, and environmental context.
  2. Monitoring Progress: Establishing a baseline against which project outcomes can be measured, facilitating effective monitoring and evaluation of the intervention’s impact.
